The cornucopia project is an initiative by the Telangana government driven by Synergy India Foundation (SIF). SIF is a nonprofit and secular organization working in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Organic Farming in schools

Improve Health

“A healthy mind resides in a healthy body.” This thought is the root of this initiative. The Cornucopia project’s aim is to improve the health of school children. Organic food products contain high nutritional content and do not contain modified ingredients, unlike conventional Agriculture produce. The school children require a diet rich in vitamins and minerals in their growth years, and organic produce is rich in these components. Therefore providing them a nutritious diet is significant as it improves their health.

Health Improvement

Building Future Agripreneurs

These schoolchildren are future agriculturists. Telangana is an Agrarian economy where most people choose agriculture as their future occupation. Inculcating farming in the school curriculum can enhance the skills of future Agripreneurs. This initiative provides skills and training to children to learn the farming methods and techniques and get practical exposure to agriculture to prepare them for the future.

Self Sustainability

The government schools rely on external sources for the supply of food products. By inculcating, organic farming in the school curriculum and practical implementation of farming, the organic produce can be used for preparing meals for the children. With this project, the schools can cultivate the food they need in the school itself. This initiative will teach the children about sustainable living.

Reasons to launch Organic Farming in School Curriculum

• The government schools have the potential to teach lessons on food nutrition and agriculture. In a state where the economy is primarily agrarian, this initiative can train future farmers by training their farming skills. The government schools have a free land area that can be optimally utilized for organic farming.

• The organic farming approach is eco friendly and improves fertility, soil structure, and reduces erosion. This Cornucopia initiative has the potential to shape the values of children and their families about organic farming.

• The government schools are tied up with mid-day meal programs for school children. By supplying a portion of the organic produce in schools can ensure a regular and healthy meal for the children that can help in their nutritious growth.

• Implementing organic farming in schools can raise awareness and demand for organically grown food. It can develop the organic sector in the state and eventually in the country.

The Cornucopia initiative aims for the welfare of society along with the holistic development of children.
